Winning Birmingham student shows she's the business
City College student Melrose Tuitt has shown that she means business by winning the ACF Car Finance Limited 'Outstanding Business Student Award' through hard work and dedication to her studies.
26 year old Melrose, from Handsworth, along with fellow students on the Btec National Award for Business Studies and Btec Higher National Diploma in Business Studies, had to demonstrate a range of skills during a four week study period to be in with a chance of winning.
Students were evaluated on a variety of elements including business acumen and creativity displayed through course work and during class. As well as their overall performance in written work, demonstrating knowledge and understanding. In addition tutors also took into account attendance, effort and personal development.
The scheme was organised by City College Birmingham, in association with the flagship Birmingham showroom of leading sub-prime car dealer ACF Car Finance, to help encourage and support budding business talent throughout the area.
Melrose, a mother of two and student mentor at the college, was assessed by the course tutors and identified as the winner before receiving the accolade along with £500 worth of computer vouchers.
City College Tutor John McFarlane comments: "Melrose really is an inspiration. She has shown incredible commitment and determination to the course and it's fantastic that a high profile local employer like ACF Car Finance is able to reward her talent, giving her real confidence in her ability and motivating others to succeed.
"This has been a great opportunity for the City College students to demonstrate how ready for the real business environment they are and to show off the business acumen they have gained through their studies."
A spokesperson for ACF Car Finance added: "Effective training and development underpin the ACF Car Finance approach to business and is vital for individuals to succeed in the business world. This scheme is all about finding business stars of the future like Melrose and rewarding that talent.
"We'd like to congratulate Melrose once again on her well-deserved win."
