Cash-strapped Brits Go The Distance To Bag A Bargain

Credit-crunch beating shoppers drive an average of 50 miles to purchase cut-price items, according to figures from a survey carried out by specialist sub-prime car dealer, ACF Car Finance Limited.

The company carried out a survey asking how far people would drive to bag a bargain. Almost two thirds admitting they had driven up to 50 miles to snap up discounted items, to make a significant saving.

One bargain-hunter admitted making a 500-mile round trip to purchase a pair of shoes!

Half of those who took part said they had travelled 50 miles to save money when purchasing a car. A fifth admitted to travelling extra miles to bag a better deal on clothes.

Leading online auction site, EBay, came out on top as a favourite source for bargains, with over half of those surveyed admitting to having used the popular website to find discount items such as furniture, which they'd driven to collect.

Others revealed they had driven more than 100 miles to collect a puppy and 166 miles for a gas stove. Another respondent made a 390-mile round trip to visit a car boot sale in the hope of making a big-save.
